MunroMan – UK’s Highest Triathlon Festival Sun 9th July 2017

For 4 years I have organised the UK’s Highest cycle sportive the 3 Pistes which finishes at Cairngorm ski centre.

In 2016 I organised the UK’s Highest 10km swim and a triathlon in the River Spey at Loch Insh Watersports Centre.

Triathlon is my first love, so what happens if I put the 2 of these great events together and add a run that includes Ben Macdui and finishes at the top of the Cairngorm ?

MunroMan – Sunday 9th July 2017

The UK’s Highest Middle & Iron Triathlon Swim.

The UK’s Highest Triathlon Bike Course with Mountain Top Finish.

The UK’s Highest Triathlon Transition.

The UK’s Highest Triathlon Run Course.

The UK’s Highest Triathlon Finish.

Standard, Middle and Iron Distance triathlons

Considering it is in the middle of the Cairngorm Mountains, MunroMan Standard Bike Course is surprisingly flat and fast, albeit with a killer climb at the end.

Likewise the Middle Bike Course is comparatively flatter and faster, again with that killer climb at the end.

However the Iron Bike Course is the UK’s Highest and hilliest, taking you over 3 of the UK’s 5 highest roads, in fact you scale the 20% walls of The Lecht twice, doing it from both sides.

The run will finish at the top of Cairngorm. Those doing the Middle and Iron distances will scale the summits of Scotland’s 2nd and 6th highest peaks Ben Macdui and Cairngorm. Standard distance athletes just have to scale Cairngorm.

Entries will open mid October. I will give you lots and lots more information before then.

In the mean time you will have questions… here’s a few answers.

No you will not need a support runner. If you make the cut off and you have the compulsory mountain kit you will do the high level route first then the lower stuff.

No you will not need  support crew on the bike. We will have aid stations and broom vehicles.

Yes, due to split transition we will provide a shuttle bus service from Cairngorm to Loch Insh.

Yes it will be great for your family to come and spectate… can you run up the mountain faster than they can get up on the train?

It is going to be great. Get on board. Awrabest

Alan
